The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR, Regulation (EU) 2023/1115) requires companies to prove that certain commodities and derived products do not contribute to deforestation or forest degradation. It applies to companies placing these goods on the EU market, making them available, or exporting them from the EU.

The regulation covers seven commodities: cattle, cocoa, coffee, oil palm, rubber, soy and wood, plus numerous derived products such as chocolate, furniture, tyres, paper and palm oil derivatives. Whether a product is in scope is determined by its customs code (CN code).

For large and medium-sized companies the EUDR applies from December 30, 2026. Operators that were established as micro or small enterprises on December 31, 2024 have until June 30, 2027; for wood and wood products already covered by the EU Timber Regulation, December 30, 2026 remains the date for them too. Traders and downstream operators of any size are bound from December 30, 2026. The EU Commission's simplification package has been adopted: amending Regulation (EU) 2025/2650 mainly relieves downstream actors, while the core obligations for operators remain in place.

The due diligence statement (DDS) is the central piece of evidence under the EUDR. In it, the company confirms that it has carried out the required due diligence, including geodata for the plots of production, risk assessment and legality checks. It is submitted via the EU's TRACES system.

Required data includes the geocoordinates of all plots of production, quantity and commodity details, evidence of compliance with local law, and documents such as proof of ownership or land-use rights. Polygon One collects this data from your suppliers automatically.
